First violinist of the highly acclaimed Jerusalem String Quartet, Alexander Pavlovsky is keen on exploring different music genres and expanding his repertoire in violin concertos and chamber music. Born in Kiev, Ukraine, he began studying piano and violin at the High School of the Tchaikovsky National Academy of Muisc. He immigrated with his family to Israel in 1991, and continued his violin studies with Matvey Lieberman (a former pupil of David Oistrach) and Lazar Bendersky. In 1994 he began studies at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance in the class of Prof. Lieberman. Alexander Pavlovsky is a graduate of the Young Musicians' Group of the Jerusalem Music Centre, founded by Isaac Stern, and a winner of the Ilona Kornhauser award given to the most promising young violinist. He is also first prize winner of the Braun-Roger-Ziegel National Competition, and of the Young Artist's Competition of "Kol Hamusica" (Israel Broadcasting Authority Classical Music Channel). Alexander Pavlovsky has been assisted by the America-Israel Cultural Foundation with scholarships (1992-1999) and other grants including the loan of a 1740 J.B. Guadagnini violin.
